      Kūlolo

Kūlolo, a traditional Hawaiian sweet, is made from steamed or baked grated taro mashed with generous helpings of coconut milk and sugar. Consistency-wise, think fudge meets custard. It’s simple and wonderful, and is often sold in one-pound rectangular slabs

      WHAT IS KULOLO?

Kulolo a traditional Hawaiian dessert made of two main ingredients: taro and coconut

      Details

Luau taro pudding. 100% Hawaii taro. Like homemade. All natural powder mix. Just add water. All natural. Oki’s best. Barbara Oki Story: For fifteen years my customers at Oki Diner on the island of Kauai said that I made the best homemade coconut syrup and that I should package it. So I did! It took me two years to formulate an all natural coconut dry powder mix.

My delicious coconut cream syrup has no preservatives and no chemicals in it so you will taste the true flavor of fresh coconut. Enjoy.  Made in Hawaii.

      Ingredients

Hawaii Taro, Coconut, Cane Sugar, Cornstarch, Maltodextrin, Sodium, Caseinate and Salt.

      Directions

Refrigerate after use. Microwave: 1. Bring 1/2 cup of water to a boil in a microwave-safe bowl on high for 60 seconds. Water must be boiling (refer to your microwave user manual for boiling times).

      2. Add 1 teaspoon vegetable oil to water after removing bowl from microwave. 3. Carefully add dry mix (entire bag) of Kulolo mix to water. 4. Stir will a large spoon (approx 10 seconds). Make sure mixture is smooth.

      5. Place bowl in microwave for 30 seconds. 6. Remove bowl from microwave, fold Kulolo mixture 5 to 6 times (turn one part over the other) to ensure even cooking. Note: Mixture will be thick. 7. Place bowl back in microwave for 30 seconds.

Kulolo should be soft & fluffy when done. Do not stir Kulolo again. 8. Allow Kulolo to rest in bowl covered w/plastic wrap. 10. Cool for another 10 minutes. Cut Kulolo & serve. 11. Wrap left over Kulolo w/plastic wrap and refrigerate. Before serving, re-heat in microwave on med-low until soft.

      What does kulolo taste like?

Considered a pudding, kulolo has a solid consistency like fudge and is often served cut into squares. Its consistency is also described as being chewy and lumpy like tapioca, and its taste something like caramel
      What is kulolo made of?
Kūlolo is a Hawaiian dessert made with grated taro corms, grated coconut meat or coconut milk and sweetened with sugar. Kūlolo has a solid consistency, a mix between mochi and fudge and is often served cut into squares. Traditionally the kūlolo was placed into the imu and steamed for hours.

Kulolo is a super good Hawaiian dessert made from taro, coconut, and sugar. It has a texture like pudding crossed with fudge. Eat it at room temperature (or warm, with ice cream!) You can find kulolo all over Hawaii, but it is most famous in Kauai.

    • Hawaii’s Best Hawaiian Haupia Haupia, Hawaiian Aloha

    • Haupia is a widely popular Hawaiian dessert that is smooth, creamy, and gelatin-like in texture. It’s like little refreshing bites of Hawaii.
    • What Is Haupia?

Haupia (pronounced how-pee-ah) is a traditional Hawaiian dessert or snack that is made from coconut milk and is traditionally served in little cut squares or as a custard/pudding, often at luaus. It can also be used as an ingredient in dessert recipes such as pie, ice cream, hand pies, cake, fruit salad, and malasadas.

You can add it to just about anything you want to give a little coconut layer to and you won’t be sorry.

those of you not familiar with haupia, the consistency is somewhere between pudding and gelatin. Treat it like a creamy, coconutty gelatin. It is going to set up similarly, so you can pour it while it’s still in a pudding form and it will set like gelatin as it cools.

This is great for making haupia pie (pictured below). The haupia is layered on top of the chocolate in the chocolate pie filling in the pie crust.

Refrigerate after use. (Haupia Luau Pudding Squares) 1. Bring 2-1/2 cups water to a hard boil using a 4 qt. pot. 2. Whisk dry mix (entire bag) into boiling water. 3. Whisk vigorously as Haupia will start to thicken quickly.

      4. Remove pot from stove and continue to whisk until mixture is smooth (Approximately 30-45 seconds). 5. Pour into an 8×8 inch pan. 6. Refrigerate after Haupia cools. 7. Cut into squares and serve.

Haupia is a Hawaiian sweet traditionally made of coconut milk and pia (arrowroot starch, though most places now use cornstarch). It’s found in many forms — sometimes with the texture of Jell-O, served in bite-size cubes, or made into a loose custard used as a cake filling or frosting.

The formula for the popular haupia cake is simple: white or yellow cake layered with haupia custard, covered completely in fresh whipped cream, and finished with coconut flakes.

What does Hawaiian butter mochi taste like?

It’s rich but not too sweet with subtle hints of vanilla, butter, and coconut. The interior is wonderfully chewy and the crust is addictively crispy. If you love a sweet treat and all things mochi, you have to make this
Where did Hawaiian butter mochi come from?
Butter mochi is probably a descendant of bibingka, a Filipino cake that marks celebrations and is also borne from the magic of rice flour and coconut milk (though sometimes it’s casava), butter mochi is now firmly, of Hawaii.
In Hawaii, butter mochi is more popular than brownies, though it’s baked into similar tins Butter mochi is soft and chewy thanks to Mochiko Flour (also called glutinous rice flour or sweet rice flour). This is a super important ingredient, and no other flour will do! Since we’re using this type of flour, butter mochi is also a gluten-free snack!
The flavor of butter mochi is perfect too: it’s so rich, isn’t too sweet, and has subtle flavors of vanilla, butter, and coconut — it tastes like you just went on a tropical holiday. But it’s really the texture that makes this dessert so lovely!

Hawaiian butter mochi  kind of like a cross between cake and mochi. Unlike Japanese mochi, which I like to fill with ice cream, Hawaiian Butter Mochi baked. The result a chewy but not gummy, slightly coconutty, and delicious dessert.

Butter mochi is a no-frills dessert. You take it out of the oven, and that’s it! It doesn’t need decoration or added flavoring. It’s perfect in its simplicity.

It has a strong, distinctive flavor and is often said to be an acquired taste, as it has a combination of sweet, sour, and salty taste. Originally from Guangdong Province, the name “li hing mui” means “traveling plum”.

Li hing mui achieved popularity in Hawaii by Yee Sheong, who in early 1900 began importing li hing mui and various other preserved fruits, from China to Hawaii.
